adidas is issuing Donovan Mitchell their current-day Utah star, a sneaker that pays homage to the franchise’s most recognizable name. The prolific scorer, two-time NBA MVP, and Hall of Famer — a guy they called the Mailman because he always delivered — Karl Malone. is celebrated on this adidas DON Issue 1 “Mailman,” a sneaker that comes inspired by the iconic late-90s duds of the Utah Jazz. It was a golden period for the franchise, reaching back-to-back NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998, only to be stalled by Michael Jordan on both occasions — a period where Karl Malone racked up 2 NBA MVPs in three years — making it all the more fitting for a tribute.
The pair features a light purple and white woven upper paired with hits of orange at the heel, tongue Spider branding and on the tongues inner lining, a white speckled midsole, and icy blue outsole. The latter is seen again on the vamp overlays, while speckles of purple adorn the heel of the midsole. The biggest shoutouts to big Karl come from the franchise’s Rocky Mountain motif resting prominently on the lateral side, and the mail insignia, also on the lateral side.
