The intent behind adidas’ EQT (shorthand for Equipment) is to design a shoe solely to meet modern-day athletes’ needs as a piece of equipment by offering only the essentials of performance, protection, and comfort, while stripping away everything that’s not necessary. The adidas EQT line is one of the brand’s most storied and celebrated franchises, and it continues today with an all-new model: the EQT Gazelle.
Don’t let the name fool you — this takes absolutely zero inspiration from the 1966 icon, but from style from the mid-90s to the early 2000s, to the early part of this decade. And seemingly, the Three Stripes has looked outside their own designs for inspiration. The two-piece outsole looks incredibly similar to that of Reebok’s iconic Instapump Fury, with an upper shape and material not too different from the Hyperfused 2011 Nike Air Pegasus+ 30. Oversized and aggressive overlays are ushered in at the lateral and medial forefoot, covering up the underlying Three Stripe branding. The two debut colorways are totally 90s, with one arriving in a mix of Coral, Purple and white, the other in a more dad-friendly mix of Navy, White, Volt and Beige.
