Two-Piece adidas Forum Pack Celebrates the Chinese Invention of Print

Though the brand consistently delves into the typical prints and patterns for its commemorative Chinese New Yearreleases, adidas is taking a divergent approach to its this celebratory Forum pack. Instead of traditional water paintings or firework-printed designs, the Three Stripes looks to the Forum Low and Mid to celebrate China’s wider history as a whole, in this instance one of the most important Chinese inventions of all-time: printing.

The pack honors the process through some of the most elaborate and intricate designs the silhouette has ever seen. Though the colorways are relatively simple — a primarily tonal white build across both pairs — the ornate-yet-functional additions are anything but. The Mid can hook-on several accompanying stamp sets onto the shoe itself thanks to its wrap-around loop system. The Low, a much simpler design, features removable midfoot stamps in a monochromatic white. Across the two pairs, there are a few motifs dressed with red ink, too, most notably the removable stamp motif on the Mid’s tongue. With all of that going on, it’s easy to overlook the pair’s canvas construction — a rarity for the sneaker — whilst overlays retain their classic leather finish. Last, but certainly not least, the pairs are finished off with fully-translucent, almost jelly-like, rubber outsoles.
