adidas Manchester 89 SPZL Honors the City’s Famous Football Clubs
Originally launched in 2002, the adidas Manchester was an acknowledgment of the love affair between youths in England’s Northwest, and the adidas City Series that began back in the 1980s. Serving as the continuation of its predecessors’ storied lineage, the adidas Manchester 89 SPZL features a number of carefully considered revisions, taking inspiration from 1990s Russian made Handball SPEZIALs. Manchester 89 SPZL features a classic navy, light blue, and red colorway, selected by Spezial curator Gary Aspden and native Mancunian Mike Chetcuti as a nod to the city’s iconic football teams. City is represented by the navy and baby blue, while United is honored by striking red overlays and a blacked-out cuspole unit.
Though their rivalry is a strong one, local sneakerheads to Manchester and the world over won’t be discouraged to scoop up pairs come December 16th, when stores like ENDand adidas.comwill be dropping sizes for $120.
