The adidas Streetball Goes on Safari
While colorways and themes have been borrowed back and forth a million times between brands, there are still a few that remain synonymous with certain brands. Probably the most notable “ownership” of a colorway outside of Jordan Brand’s “Bred” is Nike’s Safari, conceptualized by Tinker Hatfield back in 1989. It’s since gone on to inspire many notable Nike releases, including the recently-released SB Dunk Low, 2019’s Nike LeBron 16 Low, and 2018’s size? x Air Max 95. Now adidas are jumping in on the theme, taking Tinker’s ethos and applying them to the modernized Streetball, albeit lighter, brighter and more inline with Safari suits than the scenery.
This isn’t the first time that the adidas Streetballhas shared a Nike-specific colorway, with the silhouette stealing the Air Yeezy ‘”Blink” colors last year. That, though, was a direct rip-off. This time around adidas makes it their own by brightening the palette to tonal creams and light gums and match it with monochrome accents. Here, uppers arrive in cream-white mesh and are overlayed by beautifully tumbled tonal leathers at the toe, collar and eyelets. Black-spotted safari textures grace the forefoot, heel and tongue, while light grey ribbing on the midfoot Three Stripes provides something a little more subtle. Completing the design is a bright crem Lightstrike midsole, and an ultra-light gum and grey rubber outsole.
Pairs of the Safari Streetball have already landed at adidas stores throughout Asia, so you should expect a Stateside release to follow shortly. Until then, enjoy a detailed look at the pair here below, and keep your eyes locked on our official Twitter account for further updates.
