Sashiko has been a frequent feature for sneaker brands over the years, more so in the past 18 months with sneakers like the Air Jordan 4, Air Force 1, Blazer – and even the Ultra BOOST 21 taking on the traditional Japanese scheme. Now it’s time for the adidas Superstar to sport Sashiko, with this special-edition release readying for release early next year.
Clad in two main materials, the pair shifts between a signature blue canvas and vachetta tan build, with the latter gracing the Shell Toe and tongue, with the former bringing up the bulk. As you’d expect from the title, the upper is stitched in white thread to start true to tradition, with special fabric overlays running down the profile to feature the silhouette’s signature Three Stripe. Underneath, you’ll find cross-hatch patterns, with tonal leather heel overlays and liners completing the rear. Up front you’ll note the aforementioned tan leather toes and tongues, with the former’s famous detailing done here in blue stitch. Sail sole units are tacked on with the same finish, and the pair is then completed by faded tongue branding, tan leather insoles, and four sets of laces.
