It may still be riding the coattails of its 50th-anniversary celebrations, but the adidas Superstar never needs an excuse to deliver another colorway to its massive fanbase. Proving once again that the icon is a major contributor to the Three Stripe profit margins, this latest release dubbed “Futureshell” also breaks the molds of what we’ve come to expect from the silhouette.

At first glance, and maybe at a distance, you could be mistaken to think this latest addition to the Superstar catalog is just another retro release, however, on closer inspection you can see there’s more than meets the eye. From the outset the predominantly white upper displays all the regular hallmarks to establish its retro status, shell-toe, bold “Semi Solar Red” three stripe branding, and a solid rubber sole unit that reads “FUTURE” in bold beneath the tread. What’s different with his pair, however, the entire shoe has been covered in a semi-translucent rubber top layer that results in a unique textural experience. The other finishing details are the two-tone blue and red heel overlays, thin blue detailing throughout, and the regular branding compositions.
