The Mexican National Football Team (FMF) had a successful summer. Its 2-1 victory over the U.S. in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup restored some order to the region despite Mauricio Pochettino not having his best men available. Some fans of "La Selección," however, have taken the win as a promising result ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which opens with Mexico as hosts at the legendary Estadio Azteca.

Although the North America-hosted tournament is nine months away, the Adidas-sponsored jerseys Mexico is expected to wear during the World Cup have already begun to surface.

Shared across social media by X user @UniformesSelec1, the shirt features a rich green base, a return to tradition. The last few Home jerseys by the Three Stripes have been commercial successes, but diehard fans of the National Team have implored for classic—even simple—green designs reminiscent of kits worn by Hugo Sánchez, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, and Jared Borgetti for "El Tricolor." The shirt's most defining feature, however, is the pre-Columbian, Aztec-inspired design seen across the shirt.

Mexico's Home shirt for the '26 World Cup harkens back to two of the team's most iconic jerseys of all-time. The green-colored top abandons the mariachi inspiration seen on the '25 Gold Cup Jersey, and feathered elements found on shirts for the '24 Copa América and '22 World Cup. Instead, it includes an ornate, intricate graphic that references the Piedra del Sol Azteca design seen on ABA Sports' Mexico Home kit for the 1998 World Cup in France. Domestic sportswear brand Garcis also manufactured a similar shirt for the National Team's '99 Confederations Cup victory against Brazil.

The impending Home Jersey, however, omits the polo-style collar found on its predecessors, an omission that's already ruined the shirt for many netizens. The National Team's modern logo appears at the center of the top, incorporating into the pre-Hernán Cortés design. A red trim animates the V-shaped neck opening as well as sleeve cuffs, while white stripes land on the shoulders.

Adidas' next green shirt for Javier Aguirre's men is reportedly its second attempt in the lead up to the World Cup. Previous reports by Footy Headlines shared that the Three Stripes had developed a Home shirt donning the colors of the Mexican flag down the center. The design would be a combination of the Away shirt from '78 by Levi's and the German sportswear brand's own Home jerseys from '94 and '95. Journalist Martín del Palacio broke news that Adidas had scrapped its initial design, a result possibly motivated by an overwhelming negative response to initial leaks of the shirt.

By comparison, Mexico's expected Away Jersey for the next World Cup opts for a simple white-and-maroon color scheme and execution. Inspired by some of the National Team's earliest Home and Visitors' Jerseys, the shirt could be a standout design in a similar fashion to the Away kit worn during the '22 World Cup in Qatar.

Enjoy early photos of Mexico's '26 World Cup uniforms ahead. According to reliable football shirt leakers, the new kits will be available via Adidas.com/Mexico throughout November 2025.
