First Looks // Y-3 adidas Ultra BOOST Light

adidas will mark a significant achievement in 2023 as it commemorates a decade of utilizing BOOST technology – and what an eventful journey it has been. From the initial excitement surrounding the Ultra BOOST and the widespread popularity of the NMD to the fluctuations in the YEEZY brand’s fortunes, the German sportswear giants have experienced a wide range of emotions. Recently, the flagship model, the Ultra BOOST runner, has undergone a series of modifications, including the addition of ClimaCool, WNTR.RDY, and other altered designs. Their newest, the adidas Ultra BOOST Light — equipped with a new generation of ultra-light BOOST tech — will continue the marquee line into the future, and to help kick things off, they’ve tapped long-time collaborator Yohji Yamamoto and his Y-3 imprint for a special edition effort on the silhouette.

Opting for a traditional Black/White colorway synonymous with the Three Stripe, Yamamoto has taken the basic concept and added signature touches like fly-off thread, sashiko-style stitching, and paint-streak detail delivered on the midfoot. Yohji’s John Hancock dresses the medial side in an avant-garde style, with the oversized Y-3 rear tag rounds out the design.
