The ASICS GEL-Kayano 32 Delivers Minor Updates to the Stability-Oriented Running Franchise
If you've only ever run a mile in your Physical Education class, it's likely you've only read the words "ASICS GEL-Kayano" alongside headlines about a JJJJound, ZUTOMAYO, or Concepts collaboration. The footwear franchise, however, has been one of the most reliable in the performance-running space since 1993, and the GEL-Kayano 32 looks to continue this trajectory.
Expected to debut throughout Summer 2025, the silhouette is a near-identical offering to the current GEL-Kayano 31. A quick side-by-side comparison of the two shoes won't leave too much of an impression, but closer-inspection reveals some updates to the beloved series.
The through-line between the popular GEL-Kayano 14 and ASICS' next stability-oriented runner isn't as obvious as it is across other franchises, but their design principles are the same despite the 17-year gap between them. In comparison to the GEL-Nimbus series, the Kayano line features stabilizing technology to help runners who pronate. To this end, the same 4D GUIDANCE SYSTEM™ found on the current model appears on the GEL-Kayano 32. FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO and PureGEL™ cushioning solutions come together across the tooling to ensure every stride taken lands on a comfortable compound ready to go the distance. The outsole maintains its same HYBRID ASICSGRIP™ and AHARPLUS™ rubber traction.
Up top, the partly knit and engineered mesh construction is kept relatively the same from its predecessor. Ventilation across the profiles, however, has been improved. Eyelets and padding on the tongue (which now features a pull tab) have been reworked, with the easy-access, sock-like collar also reverting to a more traditional presentation. Reflective panels, vector branding on the side, and a call-out to Toshikazu Kayano's original franchise reprise their roles.
Proudly Japanese, ASICS does a lot of things differently than its Western counterparts. While some might see the similarities between the GEL-Kayano 31 and 32 as reason enough to not upgrade, others will appreciate the offering being rooted in kaizen, the idea of continuous improvement. Like its predecessors, the latest Kayano is informed by customer feedback, wear-test data, and the company's in-house research to refine the experience for athletes of all levels.
Expect the GEL-Kayano 32 to hit ASICS.com and specialty running stores throughout summer for a price of $165. Debut color schemes include shades of white, cream, and blue.
Away from the Japanese sportswear giant, the Nike Air Max 95 'Neon' (Big Bubble) retro is set to release before the year ends.
