OTTO 958 Presents the ASICS Protoblast-CMLVIII in 'Dark Brown'
OTTO 958 might've begun as glorified art gallery merch to commemorate Kiko Kostadinov's first showing at Morán Morán, but it's become an imprint to look out for. Ahead of spring, it will release another colorway of the ASICS Protoblast-CMLVIII.
Previously offered in a 'Graphite Grey/Forest Green' makeover, the latest Protoblast-CMLVIII delivers a much more muted aesthetic. Based on a number of archival silhouettes, including the GELBURST ™ and GEL-HOOP ™ 6 basketball shoes, the latest from Kostadinov for ASICS delivers an experimental take on performance footwear. The model might not be for everybody, but it's acquired a niche audience thanks to its co-sign from the effortlessly cool Bulgarian-born fashion designer; retro design language; and unorthodox color schemes. These elements come return on the next OTTO 958 drop.
The sneaker features a full grain leather build across its upper, done in an understated 'Dark Brown.' The autumnal tone sets the stage for 'Pure Gold' contrast that doesn't detract too much from its surroundings, but introduces another elegant touch into the upper. Details along the tongue reference the old school GEL-100 running series, while the sole unit underfoot draws a clear through-line to the modern NOVABLAST™ 2 performance franchise. Kostadinov and team, however, have tuned the FLYTEFOAM™ Blast cushioning for everyday scenarios instead of marathon training. Nods to the joint-venture arrive at the lateral profile, insole, and toe box in form of its signature O logo.
