Converse‘s ultra high-top ERX-400 EW Hi has returned in a Los Angeles Lakers-esque color scheme. A classic silhouette that originally released in 1988 and was worn on-court by NBA Hall of Famer Karl Malone, the ERX-400 EW Hi was crafted for maximum support and durability. These two traits have helped it live on as a bold, bulky casual sneaker — one that even received a MASTERMIND collaboration in 2019.
This Lake Show-inspired style features a towering white leather upper, complete with a vast assortment of panels, perforations, and plastic eyestays. Purple and gold add importance to the shoe’s branded hits, of which there are several: CONS graphics appear on the tongue, collar, and heel, while a classic chevron takes up residence on the quarters.
More yellow appears around the large collar overlays, with final hits of purple spread around the heel, forefoot, and outsole. ENERGY WAVE midsoles proffer retro cushioning for a nod to other late ’80s-early ’90s Converse hoop silhouettes, and a printed graphic on the sock liner completes the look.
The Converse ERX-400 EW Hi will release at Converse Japan on Feb 21st, for a tax-included price of ¥14,300 JPY (approximately $130 USD).
