Casio introduced the G-SHOCK line of watches in 1983 with the release of the DW-5000C model. Built to deliver best in class shock-resistance for a digital timepiece, the rugged series has become a staple among watch collectors, fashion-enthusiasts, and culture connoisseurs alike over the last 43 years.
Today, Casio introduces the latest chapter of its shock-resistant range with the launch of the G-SHOCK 2500 Series.
Three distinct executions—GAC-2500, GMC-2500, GMC-2500D—are offered, drawing from the octagonal-round bezel found on the DW5000C pioneer. The 2500 Series indulges in softer, rounded contours and houses an analog system that deviates from the digital screens most often associated with G-SHOCK.
Each style is built with the platform's signature toughness and shock-resistance, but delivers more streamlined looks. At the center of the 2500 Series is the new Multi-Mission Date display, "which shifts between the date, mode, stopwatch minutes, and setting information," as described by Casio. Additionally, each analog G-SHOCK is equipped with 200M water-resistance, LED illumination, an auto-calendar through the year 2099, and a power-saving second-hand stop function that helps extend battery life up to five years.
Select models of the 2500 Series incorporate bio-based resin components.
The dressy, full-metal GMC-2500D retails for $350, whereas the hybrid, metal-accented GMC-2500 is priced at $280–$300. The more playful GAC-2500—which arrives in a vibrant yellow resin/bio-based resin—sells for $145.
Casio's G-SHOCK 2500 Series will be available beginning November at select retailers, gshock.casio.com, and the G-SHOCK Soho Store (454 W Broadway in New York City).
