It’s back.
Conceptualized in 1984 by designer Peter Moore, the Air Jordan 1 released the following year and gained instant notoriety. All eyes were on MJ as he took to the court in his very own black and red sneaker, a follow up to the NBA sanctioned Nike Air Ship, a sneaker that Mike wore in a 1984 practice match at Madison Square Garden. The NBA notified Nike and the Bulls that the black and red sneaker from the October 18th game broke the “uniformity of uniform rule.” He would immediately have to stop wearing the colorway on court. He didn’t. And the following season was no different, with Mike doing the work in the Bred and Chicago colorways all throughout 1985/86.

And even though the “Black/Red” AKA “Bred” Air Jordan 1 wasn’t the actual banned sneaker, it’s since taken on the title due to its resemblance to the mysterious Air Ship — a sneaker that is still yet to retro (below)

Over the years, the sneaker gained an iconic status. And rightfully so, being one of the first Jordan releases ever. In fact, it tied with the “Chicago” colorway in our Top Ten Air Jordan 1s Ever list. But you already know the sneaker, it’s importance and the level of clout it possesses. And now, after only a three-year absence, the OG Air Jordan 1 “Bred” is set to return to market — this time arriving in its pure OG form: ultra-high cut, vibrant hues of red, and likely the original shape, as per sneaker leaker @DJFolk.
Said to release in full-family sizing, the return of the OG Air Jordan 1 “Bred” is said to be a similar sized release to that of 2018’s Concord Air Jordan 11, with well over 1 million pairs said to be in production. A release date is locked in for Black Friday, November 29th at select Jumpman stockists and online at Nike.com, with Mens pairs retailing for $160.
And while we wait on first looks, take a peep at the 1985 OG pair below, as well as the official image set from 2016, and stay locked into HOUSE OF HEAT for more information as it lands!
