It seems that denim is in at the moment. Levi's® and Beyoncé might've led the charge, but Jordan Brand isn't falling behind, reimagining its iconic Air Jordan 1 Low in different shades of the material.
Officially clad in a 'White/Sail/Star Blue/Midnight Navy' color scheme, the newly-surfaced retro breathes new life into the 40-year-old design. While reminiscent of previous denim-donning retros from the eponymous label, the low-top Air Jordan delivers lighter shades of the jean-appropriate fabric across its upper. The darkest of the bunch takes over the profile swooshes, while panels around the ankle and lower heel indulge in one of the fabric's most iconic styles. Leather construction interrupts the setup at the mid-foot and toe box, but overlays along the tongue and throughout the forefoot revert to a light wash.
Underfoot, Michael Jordan's signature model from 1985 opts for an off-white midsole and 'Midnight Navy' traction that not only contributes to the Double Denim theme, but also plays into the idea that garments age with you as you wear them.
Firm stateside Nike.com release details of the denim-clad Jordan 1 Low have yet to be disclosed by the brand, but pairs have already begun popping up across Asia. Expect the retro to launch globally before the end of summer.
Away from the Jumpman family, Nike Basketball has tapped multi-hyphenate artist Wale to unveil the G.T. Future, a modern performance silhouette rooted in aesthetics from the early 2000s.
