Team Jumpman to Bring a Utility Update to the Air Jordan 3 in Spring 2027
At its core, Jordan Brand is a performance basketball company. As such, franchises like the Air Jordan series are on a constant pursuit of pinnacle expressions for the game that saw Michael Jordan take over the world. Every now and then, the company also revisits some of its classic styles from the past—including the Air Jordan 3—to breathe new life into them.
According to the duo of X user @zSneakerHeadz and Sneaker Files, the AJ3 designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1988 will join NIKE, Inc.'s Utility roster during Spring 2027.
To the uninformed, Utility-editions from Jordan Brand bring lifestyle touches to some of the signature shoes worn by "His Airness" during his NBA career. Each model's overall aesthetic is instantly-recognizable, but components such as rubber traction, lacing, and materials are often modified to be more "useful" for everyday life. The inaugural Air Jordan 3 Utility is expected to include a heel pull tab for easier on-and-off action; bungee cord-like lacing system; and sole unit more suited for the outdoors.
Enjoy a speculative mock-up of the AJ3 Utility in a "Black/Fire Red" color scheme ahead. Pairs are expected to release via Nike.com/Jordan and a wide variety of global retailers between February-April 2027.
Outside of the world of retro basketball product, Nike is gearing up for the 2026 World Cup™ tournament.
