With the return of the Air Jordan 1 Low OG for Chinese New Year 2021, it seems only fitting that Jordan Brand would bring back another of its frequent CNY celebrators last seen back in 2016. Though differing greatly from its five-year-old black-based counterpart, the 2021 Air Jordan 5 Low CNY “Chinese New Year” does usher in some common similarities. Both are based on original releases, this focusing on the Black Tongue Fire Red, and both bring in some dazzling colors.

But where exactly is that color, you ask? It’s stowed beneath the pair’s tear-away canvas uppers that reveal a colorful pattern print beneath. Though it’s not pictured here in the official image set, the special-edition boxing will give you a good idea of what to expect on the upper. The pair is trimmed by traditional red hits at the eyelets, liner, and forefoot teeth, while it’s framed atop a sail midsole and milky-translucent outsole. Decorative patches in the rear read #23 in Chinese, while a cautionary warning under the medial netting may indicate that these are in fact inspired by festive fireworks.
