First Looks // Air Jordan XX3 “Year of the Rabbit”
Jordan Brand will bring back a fan-favorite signature model for the 2023 Chinese New Year celebrations, with the Air Jordan XX3 “Year of the Rabbit” joining the Air Jordan 1 Low OG for the East-Asian festival.
Designed by Tinker Hatfield and first released back in 2008, the silhouette has seen a sporadic inclusion into the brand’s respective runs — most notably through collaborative efforts. And while this new release doesn’t have an official partnership in place, it does classify as a special-edition drop, as it honors the annual Lunar New Year tradition.
Though it pulls from the hare in name, its design is a far cry from the leporids family’s key features. There’s no fur, no fleece, nor any obvious callouts to the rabbit on the exterior; only the inner tongues sport a rabbit motif. Instead, the pair opts for traditional oriental upgrades, including jade green shroud overlays and toes — both of which come trimmed with gold. Reds decorated the stylized tongue tags and insoles that mimic Lucky Red Envelopes, with the rest fitted out in simple whites throughout.
