Over the years, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has achieved some amazing — seemingly impossible — dreams come true for children with a critical illness. For a sneakerhead, there’s no bigger wish on the list than designing your own Air Jordan retro — perhaps maybe meeting Tinker Hatfield, too. Well, that’s exactly what the Foundation did for Peyton Smith who got the chance to not only meet the Nike and Jordan Brand legend but also got the chance to design his very own Air Jordan 4
A memento of the young designer’s passions, the pair sports a color story which borrows from the signature flags of the US Air Force — a nod to his family who serve — with blue, grey, and white paired with yellow Cancer ribbons at the heel in his very own Nike-crossover design Further references to airborne combat take form on the insoles, bearing camo pattern and the shark nose art signature to WW2 fighter planes. Elsewhere, “Air Peyton” patches onto the inside tongue, celebrating its creator in tandem with a series of text that denotes places in which Peyton has spent his life.
Grab a detailed look at Peyton Smith’s efforts here, and though you won’t be able to secure a pair for yourself, you can enjoy them vicariously through his images and the additional pairs made for his family.
