Despite Michael Jordan's retirement from professional basketball more than 20 years ago, Jordan Brand continues to be a force at the highest level of multiple sports. Figures like Luka Dončić and Aaron Judge continue to champion His Airness on the hardwood and baseball diamond, respectively. Moving forward, Zeb Powell will represent the Jumpman on the slopes, signing to his brand as its first-ever sponsored snowboarder.
Powell shared the news last night via an Instagram post. Speculation had been bubbling over the last few months, however, given the Olympic athlete's increased use of Jordan-branded boards produced by Burton. The 25-year-old had also been spotted rocking more and more Air Jordan retros on his off days.
Although Powell's deal with Jordan Brand is surprising, it's been earned.
Powell has consistently proven his talent on the snowboard, wowing longtime fans and converting new ones in the process. In many ways, he's on his MJ trajectory in the world of winter sports.
Additionally, Powell is a native of North Carolina, the same state in which Jordan grew up. The signing, then, serves as one Tar Heel looking out for another.
It's still uncertain exactly how Jordan Brand's foray into snowboarding will look, but what's confirmed is that Powell will ride and sport more Jumpman-stamped items on the slopes. Keep an eye on Nike.com/Jordan to see if the company surprise-drops any items honoring Zeb Powell's signing.
