Though atmosare known to be prolific collaborators in the footwear space, their efforts with Boston-based New Balancehave been minimal. Perhaps that is about to change, as the powerhouse retailers from across the Pacific have revealed a brand-new effort on the 2002R.
Returning to a theme that’s appeared on previous atmos releases, the atmos x New Balance 2002R “Shibuya Rat” delivers an Eastern twist on the beloved Western trainer, resulting in a true cross-continent collab. Delivered mostly in light, steely grey hues, the pair stars with fairly simple origins; mesh uppers, leather, and nubuck overlays all proffer simple finishes before fur-capped toes, and footprint-debossed overlays link into the official theme. There are darker blues on the midfoot N motifs and lighter hues on the tongue and N-ERGY cushioning, with white midsoles and multi-blue outsoles rounding out the exterior. Lastly, atmos have illustrated the insoles with the titular rat to complete the design.
Enjoy a detailed look at the pair ahead, and look for the atmos x New Balance 2002R “Shibuya Rat” to release at atmos Tokyo on Saturday, May 28th. A wider global rollout has not yet been confirmed.
In related news, there are three hiking boot-inspired 2002R colorways on the way!
