New Balance has never been shy about letting the 990 series move beyond its usual greyscale comfort zone, and the New Balance 990v4 “Urgent Red” is one of the loudest examples to surface this season.
Set to release on June 25, the pair arrives in a vivid mix of red, yellow, blue, cream, black, and white — a combination that immediately calls to mind the classic “Bart Simpson” palette. It is not an official connection, but the resemblance is hard to miss, with the bright red mesh and suede upper paired against soft yellow underlays, royal blue heel detailing, and black hits around the outsole.
The New Balance 990v4“Urgent Red” keeps the model’s Made in USA construction intact, pairing pigskin suede and mesh across the upper with the familiar ENCAP midsole underfoot. The off-white sole unit helps tone down the upper’s bolder color blocking, while the black-and-white “N” logo adds a sharper break through the middle of the shoe.

It is a playful switch-up for the 990v4, a model often associated with more muted palettes and everyday wearability. Here, New Balance leans into something much brighter without losing the shape and comfort that have kept the silhouette in rotation for years.
The New Balance 990v4 “Urgent Red” will release on June 25 via NewBalance.com for $185.
