The universe that is COMME des GARÇONS is vast, with diffusions confusing the best of us — CdG SHIRT, BLACK, PLAY, HOMME PLUS — collectively known in the sneaker world as CDG. Here, it’s the HOMME PLUS division that returns to the footwear fold with not one, but two collaborative efforts on the New Balance 550 for 2022

Could this be their laziest collaboration since their phone-in co-collaboration with Supreme on the Air Force 1? With the brand logo resting prominently on the heel of two black and white leather-built releases, and no significant effort to differentiate the silhouette from a slew of previously-released general releases, we’ll leave the decision up to you. But as has been the case for CDG in the past, not everything needs to be overt and over the top, nor does it need to be ultra-colorful to be effective. A closer inspection at the minimal duo does reveal premium leathers and differentiated blocking — but is it enough?

Of course, this is not the only New Balance 550 collaboration in the works, with UK retailers size? enlisting CORDURA for a three-piece pack for 2022.

A release for the duo is currently earmarked for October, so expect to learn and see more about the release as the year unfolds.
