Asia-Exclusive Concepts x New Balance 57/40 “Flying Cash” is Coming Soon

Though it’s not as mainstream as other new models like the 327, the New Balance 57/40 has managed to carve out quite a cult following, thanks in part to collaborations with Staud, Bricks & Wood, size?, and Joshua Vides. Now New Balance looks to one of its most prolific partners and fellow Bostonians Concepts for a second effort on the silhouette.

For this Asia-exclusive release, Deon Point has jumped back a few centuries from the silent film era of his “Headin’ Home” release, settling here on something that series as a nod to China’s “Flying Cash” of the Tang dynasty — the precursor to banknotes. Its name came from its ability to transfer cash across vast distances without physically transporting it. Keeping this in mind, the pair’s appearance links back to these early forms of money, inclusive of an upper that’s treated to mimic circulated paper. This rests atop forest green mesh uppers, before adding a bevy of colorful suede from the essays to the heel. The midfoot N bears a gradient finish — again apparent of the imagery depicted on the notes — and the pair is completed by a white and navy sole unit that’s been peppered with red accents.

Though the official inspiration nor its release date is yet to be revealed, we’re sure that it won’t be too long before we see these hit shelves — likely around Spring 2022. See for yourself here below, and be sure to keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for further updates.
