Reintroduced by a series of strong collaborations, namely, Saleh Bembry and BAPE, the New Balance 2002R has enjoyed a robust resurgence. But it’s not fully contributed to these big-name brands, with the century-old brand delivering some of the most revered 2002R colorways of the past 18 months from their general release schedule. Last month “Suede Pack” was one of those, but nothing quite garnered the attention of the mid-2021’s New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack”
The three-color collection — “Rain Cloud, “Phantom,” and “Sea Salt” — saw the classic 2010 silhouette dressed in distress; an aesthetic not-too-dissimilar to CDG’s work with Nike. It became a fan-favorite for customizers and casual wearers alike — and now it looks like the brand has more on the way for 2022, with two classically-colored creations on the way. A throwback “Navy” take offers another dark-colored proposition to the collection, with its familiar colors surfacing recently on the new 990v6, while an accompanying “Steel Blue” option harkens back to the New Balance heritage of 1984, where the schemed debuted on the iconic 1300.
