New Balance Delivers Another 2002R "Refined Future" Capsule for Fall 2025

The New Balance 2002R is years removed from its heyday, but the silhouette continues to form an important part of the Boston-based brand's footwear roster. Although a plethora of color schemes are currently available online and in-store, few elicit the response that the "Refined Future" makeover does.

Widely incorrectly referred to as the "Protection Pack," the distressed aesthetic was introduced via the NB 2002R in 2021 and designed by the brand's Yue Wu (@flyin_asparagus on Instagram). Inspired by time and the concept of "wearable relics," the look elevates the technical retro product above a simple color execution. Collections tend to be easily accesible and readily available, blending the best of both worlds.

Over the last four years, Wu's original vision has landed across other models in the New Balance family, but its home is atop the NB 2002R. A series of understated color schemes have graced the distressed look, and the trend continues with the Fall 2025 season. "Black," "White," and "Shipyard" tones claim a pair, creating monochromatic finishes similar to the Stone Island x New Balance 574 Ghost capsule.
