New Balance introduced the 5030 earlier this year through a run of relatively simple colorways, but the model was never exactly quiet. With its sculpted upper, flowing lines, and segmented ABZORB heel cushioning, the silhouette already had a futuristic edge. Now, after recent metallic-trimmed efforts, the New Balance 5030 "Iridescent" pushes the young model into its boldest territory yet.

The upper is the clear focus here, replacing traditional paneling with a glossy molded shell finished in a shifting iridescent treatment. Depending on the angle, the surface shifts among purple, burgundy, green, and deep blue tones, giving the pair a liquid-metal effect that complements the 5030’s sweeping design language. The raised lines across the upper create a layered, almost aerodynamic look, while the oversized “N” branding is built directly into the sculpted sidewall.

Black detailing helps ground the finish. The tongue, laces, collar, lining, midsole, and outsole all arrive in dark tones, keeping the pair from feeling too chaotic despite the high-shine upper. From the top, the shoe also reveals its “ABZORB 5030” insole branding and a partially concealed lacing setup that sits neatly beneath the molded shell.

It is a strong example of where New Balance can take the 5030 next. The model debuted as a more approachable entry into the brand’s modern ABZORB language, but the New Balance 5030 "Iridescent" shows that it can handle more experimental treatments without losing its shape.

The New Balance 5030 "Iridescent" is set to release on June 9th via NewBalance.com and select retailers.
