New Balance 550 “UNC” Drops December 1st

New Balance 550 “UNC” Drops December 1st

Unlike its opposing silhouettes like the adidas Forum and Air Jordan 1, the New Balance 550 is unapologetically a 1980s basketball sneaker. Since its return to market last year, the sneaker has stayed well within its lane, delivering no-frills offerings that fit well within the constraints of the era in which it was conceived. No audacious efforts found and materials rarely tweaked, the Boston-based brand has shown that you can reinstate a classic without selling out. In keeping with that mantra, New Balance returns with another simple proposition, this one arriving with big Tar Heels feels.

Once again, the design arrives anchored into its retro roots, with smooth and perforated white leathers present as the majority, before a peppering of Carolina Blue covers the majority of the accents, from the mesh collars to the liners, and branding trim. There is some black, too, but only trace amounts, while an aged-look sail sole unit completes the design and continues the mood board trend.
