It’s been pretty obvious over the past few weeks that the 992 is involved heavily in the future plans of New Balance. The mythical silhouette rose to recent prominence thanks to a handful of drip-fed drops last year, a more-recent quickstrike KITH exclusive, and Joe Freshgood’s epic All-Star Weekend collaboration. And with another four-pack of pairs ready to kick-off next month, it’s easy to see that the resurgence is building. One would even say it’s now reached its pinnacle, having just hit the Boston label’s NB1 customization platform, giving you the power to put together your own multi-layered marvel.
The NB1 offers up a great deal of creative flexibility, allowing you to individually color pretty much every aspect of the 992 — from it’s flowing overlays to its mesh upper and the sole unit. It even gives you the ability in some sections to switch out materials, allowing you to introduce reflective, synthetics or to stay true to the OG pigskin. You can head on over to NewBalance.comto try it out for yourself (forewarning, I spent hours on that thing — it’s addictive) and once you’ve finally settled on a pair, you can pop it into production for just $190.
Take a look below at just some of the hundreds of available options on the platform.
