Teddy Santis Presents the New Balance 997 'Mushroom' for Made in USA's Spring/Summer 2025 Collection
Teddy Santis has re-engerized New Balance's Made in USA range since assuming the role of its Creative Director in April 2021. For he and his team's Spring/Summer 2025 offerings, they've prepped a 997 in an understated 'Mushroom/Moonrock' color scheme.
A lot tamer than some of the styles featured in the imminent Made in UK collection, the New Balance 997 delivers a sleek aesthetic and high-quality materials. Suede panels across the upper opt for the titular 'Mushroom' tone—which also lands on an upcoming New Balance 992—while mesh visible at the toe box and suede panels around the collar deviate in a duller 'Moonrock.' Profile N logos opt for a silver finish that harkens back to the silhouette's performance running origins.
What stands out of from Santis' latest work for the Made in USA program is the NB 997's tongue and vamp overlay. At quick glance, the brown, textured material resembles eco-friendly cork. And while closer inspection debunks this doubt, it also reveals a non-standard exposed foam backing behind the tongue. The pattern across the mesh toe box also deviates from what's typically found on the sneaker, although the ENCAP-cushioned sole unit underfoot provides familiarity.
