Though he’s yet to play a minute in the 2021/22 NBA season, New Balance is ready waiting in the wings for his return. And when he does, he’s expected to do so in his sophomore signature sneaker, the New Balance KAWHI 2
First looks at the new model shows a continuation of what The Klaw likes best; mid-cuts, heel padding, lightweight uppers, and responsive cushioning all feature in a similar vein to that seen on the first model. Here, though you’ll notice obvious design changes, like the diagonal line from toe to heel on the profile that greatly alters the pair’s shape, the removal of rear ankle clips, and more midfoot support. The rear New Balance logo is swapped out for a wordmark and presumably gives more flexibility to the shoe. You’ll also notice a more streamlined upper, with overlays all arriving in glaze for a one-piece look.
