Since 2002, Nike SB has amassed a collection of out-of-left-field releases. In its early days, the skateboarding-obsessed imprint resorted to unofficial homages, but recent memory has seen it collaborate with unlikely partners. Case in point?: Costco's Kirkland Signature has an SB Dunk Low on the way.
Previewed by Instagram user @sneaker_sample, the unreleased collaboration is one of the sneaker industry's biggest eyebrow-raisers of the year. Kirkland Signature is best known for affordable alternatives to more expensive, brandname products, not skateboarding shoes. Yet, the same manufacturer of Costco's ever-popular rotisserie chicken will soon launch its own swoosh-branded footwear style.
According to early shots of the Nike Dunk, the pair feastures a "Grey Fog" fabric across the entirety of its upper. The sweatsuit-reminiscent material is accompanied by Kirkland Signature branding on the lateral heel in its iconic "Black/Gym Red/White" medley of colors; Nike SB logos on the tongue label are done in a similar way. Inner lining opts for a fleece-like material, further reinforcing the connection to Costco's cozy sweatpants and sweaters.
Underfoot, the tried-and-proven, Air Jordan 1-reminiscent sole unit keeps things simple in "White/Black," rounding out a collaboration that's sure to make headlines thanks to hardcore skaters and uninformed Costco shoppers alike.
Stay tuned for firm Nike.com release details and official photos of the Kirkland Signature x SB Dunk Low. The project will likely launch in limited quantities between November and December for $130.
