With the UEFA Champions League Final fast-approaching and numerous domestic leagues winding down, it's a good time to be a fan of the beautiful game. Come Dec. 21, the Africa Cup of Nations—commonly abbreviated as AFCON—will divert all attention to Morocco, where 24 teams will vie for the title of Africa's best footballing nation. To commemorate the occasion, the Swoosh has allegedly been working on a special edition Nike Air Max Plus.
Shared to Instagram by South Africa's visible Air connoisseur @BubbleKoppe, the report follows a string of compelling Tuned Air proposals by the brand. Additionally, Nike sponsored April's Homecoming Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, showcasing its support for the oft-overlooked continent.
The celebratory pair should arrive with co-branding that nods to the football tournament, which runs until Jan. 18, 2026. According to the initial report, the AFCON x Air Max Plus features a "White/Black/Kelly Green/University Red" color scheme reminiscent of the Confederation of African Football's official logo. Neither speculative mock-ups nor early in-hand photos of the pair have surfaced as of writing, but that's expected to change as the end of summer inches closer.
