Checks over Stripes — literally.
Drizzy Drake has recently kicked off his European “Assassination Vacation” — which includes six shows at London’s O2 Arena, mind you — with a duo of shows in Manchester, before he hit a three-piece in Paris. At that first show in the City of Love, the Boy broke out a fresh new Nike Zoom Vomero 5 PE — a sneaker that is literally Checks over Stripes.
Drake’s pair of the mid-2000s performance trainer touts an all-black base, with the solitary hits of color arriving in Infrared across four lateral and medial stripes which streak down the sides and continue underfoot. Other new details include a strap running down the laces and rubber Swoosh stamped on each side panel.
The unlikely return of the Zoom Vomero 5 was brought forward last year by A-Cold-Wall’s retooled version of the model, which featured a giant heel piece — not too dissimilar to the OG Computer Shoe — for a special collaboration with the Swoosh. It wasn’t too well received, nor were the following general releases (minus the heel piece) that arrived in basic black and white colorways.
But these are something else.
Unfortunately, it’s likely that these, like Drake’s Air Max Plus “Stage Use Only” PE from last year, will remain an exclusive for one Aubrey Drake Graham. Grab a look at the pair below, and if any more details about a possible release emerge, we’ll be sure to let you know.
