Nike, Inc. is in full-fledged World Cup™ mode, an effort that's been months in the making. Whereas handfuls of different product launches, street tournaments, and in-person activations have helped the world remember just how intertwined the brand is with the game of football, its latest effort—an Air Max Plus donning the Fédération Française de Football's (FFF) crest—is a direct acknowledgement of this summer's global tournament, and a push for one of its sponsored nations to lift up the trophy on Sunday, July 19.

Surfaced shortly after an Air Force 1 dedicated to the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT) appeared, the Tuned Air style commemorating France's football squad features an all-over blue finish worthy of the "Les Bleus" moniker. "Blackened Blue" and "Game Royal" tones divvy up most real estate across Sean McDowell's iconic design from 1998, which has enjoyed a cult-like following across the United Kingdom, Paris metropolitan area, and other urban settings across the world. "Metallic Copper" accents appear by way of profile Swooshes and the two star-accompanied Gallic rooster (coq gaulois) on the top-of-the-tongue. Similar elements are sure to appear across Nike's 2026 Home and Away jerseys for France.

Underfoot, the Air Max unit reverts to a rich shade of blue, complementing the midsole. The whale tail-shaped shank at the mid-foot, however, indulges in more metallic flair, while part of the tread underfoot opts for classic Tn badge-approved yellow.

Akin to the Mexico Fan Collection by adidas, the Air Max Plus made in partnership with the FFF is one way fans rooting for France in the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ can support the team even outside of matchday.

As aforementioned, McDowell's runner from '98 holds an important place within the annals of French sneaker culture. Widely-referred to as "Le Requin" (The Shark), the silhouette is emblematic of the country's urban fashion and music movements of the late '90s and early 2000s. Furthermore, the Tn's debut—initially exclusively at Foot Locker stores—coincided with France winning the '98 World Cup™ on home soil.

Youth in suburban neighborhoods (banlieue) of Marseille and Paris often paired the aggressive, aquatic Air Max style with Lacoste tracksuits. More recently, the sneaker has been worn with everything from Nike Tech Suits to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) jerseys, further reimagining performance-wear for creative expression rooted in street culture.

Previous history has also seen Nike Football draw parallels between the Air Max series—including the Tn—and Mercurial line. France's prodigy, Kylian Mbappé, has been a face of these efforts, alongside Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Junior. More recently, Mbappé has celebrated his love of the Air Max Plus with a multi-item capsule that includes the Mercurial Vapor 16, Superfly 10, and Air Max Plus VII done in "Plum Eclipse" makeovers.

Other pairs acknowledging France's connection to McDowell's 28-year-old design include a pair dedicated to Marseille (2023) and the "Le Requin" Pack (2019).

Enjoy official photos of the commemorative Air Max Plus ahead. Pairs could see an early Nike.com launch across France before landing stateside, but that's yet to be revealed by either party.
