Here's some great news if you're a fan of Grateful Dead and an alum of the University of Oregon: the two institutions are scheduled to release a Nike Air Max 90 collaboration for the Holiday 2025 season.
The project is a follow-up to a multi-pair collection from 2020 between the long-standing rock band and Nike SB. The AM90—dubbed "Grateful Ducks"—is slated to feature a "Sail/Yellow Strike/Green Shock" color scheme that draws inspiration from the Oregon Ducks athletics program.
The connection between Grateful Dead and the Eugene, Ore.-based educational institution dates back to the 1970s, when the band performed at Autzen Stadium; between '74 and '94, the original G.D. rocked the crowd at the Ducks' stadium 10 times. Grateful Dead's bear icons and tie-dye-friendly aesthetic have had a home amongst Eugene's hippie folks for ages, with several joint logos landing via official and unofficial channels over the years.
Thanks to Bodega, we now have a first look at the Nike Air Max “Grateful Ducks.” The pair features a cream base highlighted with vibrant tie-dye accents, fuzzy green paneling, and bright yellow overlays. Dancing bear lace charms further nod to the Grateful Dead’s iconic imagery, while Oregon-inspired colors tie the concept together.
Stay tuned for firm release details. Pairs are expected to launch via a select number of channels between November and December for around $145.
