Where to Buy: Grateful Dead & Oregon Ducks' Nike Air Max 90 "Grateful Ducks" Collab
Here's some great news if you're a fan of Grateful Dead and an alum of the University of Oregon: the two institutions are scheduled to release a Nike Air Max 90 collaboration for the Holiday 2025 season.
The project is a follow-up to a multi-pair collection from 2020 between the long-standing rock band and Nike SB. The AM90—dubbed "Grateful Ducks"—is slated to feature a "Sail/Yellow Strike/Green Shock" color scheme that draws inspiration from the Oregon Ducks athletics program.
The connection between Grateful Dead and the Eugene, Ore.-based educational institution dates back to the 1970s, when the band performed at Autzen Stadium; between '74 and '94, the original G.D. rocked the crowd at the Ducks' stadium 10 times. Grateful Dead's bear icons and tie-dye-friendly aesthetic have had a home amongst Eugene's hippie folks for ages, with several joint logos landing via official and unofficial channels over the years.
Retailers Bodega and WishATL provided first-looks of the Nike Air Max “Grateful Ducks,” revealing vibrant tie-dye accents, fuzzy green paneling, and bright yellow overlays. Dancing bear lace charms further nod to the Grateful Dead’s iconic imagery, while Oregon-inspired colors tie the concept together.
An official press release for the project has specified that the special Air Max drop honors "Grateful Dead’s historic 1990 shows at the University of Oregon’s Autzen Stadium." The sneaker is accompanied by other items that blend the U. of Oregon's counter-culture roots with G.D.'s out-there aesthetic—including jackets, sweatpants, and t-shirts.
The entire Nike x Class Trip Grateful Ducks Collection is available via dead.net beginning today, Oct. 21. Additional drops take place on Thursday, Oct. 23, via classtrip.co, and Friday, Oct. 24, via Nike.com, SNKRS, Fanatics, and select retail partners.
The Oregon Ducks will wear Nike jerseys with a tie-dye theme and reimagined Steal Your Face logo on Saturday, Oct. 25, during the “Tie-Dye Out” football game against the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
