Nike Commemorates Kobe Bryant's Last NBA Game with Special Baseball Jersey
It's been five years since the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant. Countless messages of condolence flooded social media on the anniversary (Jan. 26). Longtime partner Nike has promised more commemorative product under the guidance of the late Bryant's wife, Vanessa. In addition to retroing his signature sneaker line, the Swoosh will launch a baseball jersey in remembrance of the Black Mamba's final NBA game.
Prior to the 2015-16 season, Bryant shared that he'd be retiring from the game after 20 years. His final matchup was against the Utah Jazz on April 13, 2016. Although the Los Angeles Lakers legend didn't start the game off too hot, he eventually found his rhythm, ending the game with 60 points. After the win, Kobe Bryant took the center court to deliver his farewell speech to a sold out Staples Center crowd. After a couple of minutes, he concluded his speech with two famous words: 'Mamba out'.
The unreleased baseball jersey features #24's final words on that day in 2016 near the right hip. Mamba text and Bryant's sheath logo appear across the chest with a 'White' outline. The bulk of the top is done in 'Black' as a nod to the late athlete's 'Black Mamba' moniker, although his jersey number also dons a contrasting border on the back. Together, each aforementioned detail creates a product rooted in one of the most inspiring legacies the world of sports has ever produced.
Enjoy official photos of the commemorative baseball jersey below, and expect a special Nike SNKRS launch sometime before April.
