Though the impact of his work was felt around the world, Virgil Abloh will mostly be remembered for opening the doors of the fashion world to people of color. His “POST-MODERN” scholarship was founded to help Black fashion students rise above the inequality and inequities faced in the world of fashion. So it’d fitting that Louis Vuitton and Nike, Virgil’s two most prevalent collaborators, in conjunction with Sotheby’s, will honor his legacy through a special auction from his final LV collection.

Marking the first of several related initiatives scheduled for the remainder of 2022, Sotheby’s will auction 200 special edition pairs of Louis Vuitton and Nike “Air Force 1” by Virgil Abloh sneakers with Louis Vuitton pilot cases. Proceeds will benefit The Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund, which in partnership with the Fashion Scholarship Fund, supports the education of academically promising students of Black, African American, or African descent.

The 200 pairs of the special edition will be made available in a range of sizes, from 5 – 18, and with a starting bid of $2,000. The sneakers, entirely made in precious calf leather, are embellished with Louis Vuitton’s emblematic Monogram and Damier patterns with natural cowhide piping. Each pair will be sold with a Louis Vuitton pilot case which was reinterpreted from the Maison’s archive in an iconic orange colorway and made of Monogram Taurillon Leather.

Update 02.10.22 The results are in! Over $25 Million was raised from the auction, with the proceeds benefitting Virgil’s Post Modern Scholarship Fund. Over 40% of the shoes were reportedly sold to Asia.
