Within the world of football, two things that are almost certainly desired by anyone who plays the sport are lifting the World Cup™ trophy and getting their own pair of football boots. Michael Olise, the 24-year-old France international, surely falls into the former group, but he's not interested in signing a boot endorsement deal (for now, at least).

The Bayern Munich forward has been making noise all season long thanks to his off-pitch outfits, pre-match ritual, and on-pitch performances. One element of his game that has gotten people talking is his choice in football boots. Since 2019, Olise has been religiously lacing up the Nike Hypervenom III, a pair of football boots that debuted to market in early 2017. The silhouette has since been discontinued and replaced by the current Phantom 6, but that hasn't deterred the England-born footballer from wearing the decade-old design.

Because Nike no longer makes the Hypervenom III, Olise has to resort to alternative measures to ensure he maintains a healthy rotation of the high-cut model. The pair, designed for the game's most-lethal players, was widely-lauded by athletes of all levels more than 10 years ago—including Olise's current teammate Harry Kane. The boots were inherently bold, which welcomed an array of wild color schemes throughout its original run.

Since his days playing for Reading FC, Olise has enjoyed matching his Hypervenom IIIs to his kits. His time at Crystal Palace saw him do the same thing, as has his current contract with Bayern Munich.

It's very likely that Olise continues to play in the discontinued Nike Football boots because he feels most-confident and comfortable in them—especially when considering the updates that've been made to soleplates over the years. Additionally, it's possible the forward wants to ensure he's able to dictate his on-pitch style; once footballers sign boot endorsement deals, they have to wear whichever design their sponsor is trying to push.

For now, then, Olise is a football boot free agent. If he and Bayern Munich win the 2026 Champions League, it's very probable that brands will come knocking on the 24-year-old's door, offering tempting endorsement deals. If Nike is part of the conversation, it could give Olise similar treatment to what adidas gave Toni Kroos: manufacturing new pairs of an old boot for the rest of his career.

    Only time will tell.
