Official Looks // Japanese-Exclusive “Mt. Fuji” Air Max 95
High inspiration.
Japanese sneaker culture has been in love with the Air Max series since it’s inception in 1987, but nothing quite intrigues their culture more than the Air Max 95. The chunky, layered staple’s importance to the ‘heads across the Pacific has been celebrated on more than one occasion, whether its by way of special “Country Camo” releases or, by the influential hand of the nation’s largest retailer atmos.
For 2019, Nike will be heading back to the Land of the Rising Sun, for a special edition “Mt. Fuji” rendition, said to be an exclusive for the nation. And like the Air Max 95’s effect on Japanese sneaker culture, the largest mountain in Japan has a significant cultural influence over the nation. Standing at a towering 12,388 feet above sea level, it is the seventh highest peak in the world. It is one of Japan’s “Three Holy Mountains” and has served as inspiration for countless artists and poets for centuries.
