Nike has linked up with Berlin-based PAN Records for a haunting new take on the Air Max 180—one that fuses experimental sound, mythological imagery, and sneaker design into one deeply atmospheric release.
Founded in 2008, PAN has become a leading force in experimental music and interdisciplinary art, pushing the boundaries of sound and visual culture alike. Now, the label lends its avant-garde sensibility to a Swooshless, all-black edition of the Air Max 180.
This special-edition release strips back branding in favor of texture, tone, and storytelling. The crinkled, matte black upper gives the shoe a worn-in, almost organic feel, while a semi-translucent glaze overlays the upper to lend a surreal, distorted sheen. The Air unit, lining, and sole are all completely blacked out, amplifying the stealthy aesthetic.
But it’s underfoot where the narrative deepens. The semi-translucent outsole reveals a depiction of Pan—the half-goat deity from ancient mythology—caught mid-flute. The same artwork reappears on the inner tissue of the packaging, subtly reinforcing the release’s mythical and meditative aura. The collaboration leans into themes of nature, duality, and introspection—concepts that have long been central to PAN’s creative identity.
