Designers at Nike, Inc. have been tasked with ideating and developing high-performing products for elite-level athletes. For years, the word "fashion" was banned from any design project as function was to lead the way. Product like Deion Sanders' Air Diamond Turf from 1993 showcased just how magical the Swoosh could be when sticking to its core principles. And while the sneaker has gone on to live several lives, it seems the shoe—specifically its prototype—has been on the brand's mind.
Official photos acquired by House of Heatº and Elden Monitors of the Nike Air DT Proto '92 showcase what seems to be a pre-release version of Sanders' iconic signature cross-trainer. Both quick glances and close inspection of the pair reveal a near-identical design to what eventually hit shelves in '93. The only obvious difference between the style that's allowed for Primetime's legacy to live on well beyond his professional athletic career is the swoosh logo on the profiles.
Sneaker and football cleat versions of the original Air Diamond Turf silhouette feature Nike's signature emblem on the lockdown strap running across the top of the foot. Sidewalls, then, are kept logo-less. Instead, mesh elements steal the spotlight along the profiles. The Air DT Proto '92 switches things up, donning Nike text on the aforementioned strap and on the midsole's lateral mid-foot. Above, the profile includes a stitched-on swoosh. The remainder of the design is faithful to the retail version of Sanders' trainer.

It's likely that the previously-unreleased edition of the Diamond Turf design was changed as to avoid excessive branding. Regardless, both versions harken back to a golden era at the Swoosh, and likely would've been received as equally well.
Enjoy detailed shots of the Proto '92 in an Atlanta Falcons-friendly "White/University Red/Metallic Gold/Black" color scheme below. Pairs are set to hit Nike.com throughout summer for $150.
