The Air Force 1 Experiments with Split Blocking

Experimentation and the Air Force 1 go hand in hand. The stalwart staple sneaker from the Swoosh has been the subject of many tinkers over the years, from its initial low-cut alteration to the bevy of retooled and redesigned options of today. While its materials mixes are getting seemingly more adventurous, its blocking has typically remained constrained within Bruce Kilgore’s original lines. This next-up pair, though, experiments with some unique material placements, in turn, resulting in a brand-new blocking aesthetic for the Uptown.

Void of any serious color, the pair arrives in a tonal mix of beige, tan, and white, through a mix of leather, mesh, and suede, all of which arrive in various finishes throughout. Smooth leathers across the upper provide the base, with shades of sail and beige alternating between the mid and quarter panels. Toe boxes are tumbled — again in beige — while eyelet and vamp layering returns in smooth leathers of white and sial respectively. From there, the pair is balanced by three distinct sections of shaggy tan suede. The heel overlay is the only unadulterated shape, while the mid panel and toe cap pieces arrive in half height. Softer, finer suedes are found on the Swoosh and tongue tags, while thick mesh tongues in an aged-look beige add a vintage aesthetic. Rear stripes are tacked on with decorative exposed stitching — again hamming up the heritage appeal — before resting atop a classic all-white sole unit to complete the design.

A drop date for the pair is yet to be confirmed, so until then scope out the official looks at the Nike Air Force 1 Low here below, and be sure to give us a follow on Twitter for further updates on its release.
