Nike will welcome one more Sportswear collection this season, focusing on traditional Japanese sashiko with a contemporary twist. First previewed on the Air Max 97, the series will continue on this colorful Nike Air Force 1 Low “Sashiko” and with it comes a handful of new and shared finishes alike.
Utilized prolifically back in 2020-21 on models like the Air Jordan 4, Nike Blazer Mid, and Air Force 1, it’s been a big break since we last saw the Swoosh deploy the traditional Japanese textile. But while those pairs retained traditional values, this new Nike Air Force 1 “Sashiko” for 2022 shows us a more contemporary take by bringing in vibrant neons into the picture amongst panels of suede and leathers. Here, rear panels feature the traditional patchwork, whilst mid panels deliver the long-practiced thread work with a modern neon and pink twist. The forefoot and eyestays are set in bone suedes, while tinted sole units underfoot come attached by striking orange contrast thread. Finally — a signature of the series — the pair is completed by neon green pulls complete with patchwork prints and striking graphic insoles stowed within.
