Nike’s new Air Force 1 React is — ironically — splitting opinion. Thoughts on the dual Air/React cushioning and classic/futuristic design is, like the sneaker itself, split down the middle. Though it surely won’t have the longevity of the original design, it does provide a contemporary twist on a classic, all whilst enhancing the comfort underfoot — a welcome addition to the oft-uncomfortable silhouette. Today, its mid-cut edition has appeared in a brand new monochrome color scheme, with grey the focus.
Here we see a distinct shift between the front and back ends, with the former staying true to both design and tech, before a futuristic feel sweeps the entire back end. Leading that charge is the visible React foam at the heel, but its mid and quarter panels of organic shapes, smaller Swooshes, and misplaced straps give the pair its most modern tweaks. Material migrates from classic leathers to lightweight ripstop, neoprene, and woven twill. Color-wise, the pair prefers a mostly mid-grey blocking, with select pops of black at the tongue and midfoot Swoosh, and white at the rear pull and forefoot; a quick flash of pink is presented on the insole to complete the design.
