Since its humble beginning on the hardwood and New York City’s transition to streetwear, the Air Force 1 has looked far and wide for inspiration. It has often enlisted collaborators, frequently looked back to its basketball roots, and regularly dived deep into history to tell some of the world’s best stories. The next release drawing from classic Confucian texts and explores The Great Unity idealogy — a Chinese utopian vision.
Arriving clad in the silhouette’s staple white-on-white base, the pair presents a slew of insignia at the mid-panel that draws from the philosophies of the texts. Less subtly, the lateral ankle imprint reads “The Great Unity” in vintage styling, while outer-worldly heel overlays and futuristic TPU Swooshes at the midfoot enhance the philosophical feel. Iridescent dubraes at the forefoot add another dimension, and the pair is completed by salmon-pink painted insoles, and an off-white sole unit underfoot.
