If you've been following John Geiger and his work since the early 2010s, one brand has remained a constant: Nike. From helping design a signature footwear model for Darrelle Revis to partaking in a legal dispute over similarities in product offerings, Geiger's relationship with the Swoosh has been a roller coaster ride, but the Pittsburgh-native is being vindicated once more.
Over the last two weeks, Geiger has teased and confirmed that he's gotten an official, co-branded collaboration with Nike. To make matters better, the project sees the designer's touch on an Air Force 1, the silhouette that helped establish his name among sneaker-enthusiasts in the mid-to-late-2017s. As the story goes, Geiger ghost-designed a number of pairs under the "Misplaced Checks" banner, which saw several swoosh logos in premium, often exotic materials layered atop one another. The project, however, was never billed as a proper linkup with Geiger by Nike, causing tension.
It's uncertain whether or not the newly-surfaced project will see a public launch. What's certain, however, is that the former sports manager did the AF-1 to his liking. High-quality materials, a meticulous attention to detail, and Geiger branding are part of the mix.
