It’s around this time of year that we begin to see an influx of Air Max 1 colorways, as the legendary Tinker Hatfield design builds up anticipation for the brand’s annual Air Max Day celebrations in March. Amongst those, we’ve seen an “Ugly Duckling” pack and rumors of an OG White/Grey/Red release. But those two won’t be the only intros[ectively-influenced releases this season, with this new Nike Air Max 1 “Safari” (2023) putting a contemporary twist on the oft-seen Air Max schematic.

Exotic finishes are piled on a creamy mesh upper, with reptile-textured heel overlays, tiger-striped midfoot casing (embroidered), and safari-printed mudguard overlays each proffering tonal, elegant beige and cream tones. The remaining overlays are flat; a supple suede vamp overlay and smooth leather Swooshes bring some much-needed visual breaks, so too does the clean, clunky white midsole underfoot. There are pops of deep earth brought in for contrast, with heel/tongue branding, eyestays, Air supports, and outsole tips all sporting the discerning hue, with a spare set of laces also sporting the dark chocoalte coloration.
