The Nike Air Max 270 En Expands Popular Franchise with New Air Bubble

Nike's Air Max technology and line are fast-approaching their 40th anniversary. Before they arrive to the occasion, however, the brand continues to experiment with the revolutionary cushioning setup, launching new products along the way. The latest effort—presumably named Air Max 270 En—modifies a familiar design for a sportier look.

Photos acquired by Elden Monitors reveal three color presentations of a silhouette reminiscent of the Air Max 270, which debuted February 2018. The dual-cushioned model went on to become one of the company's best-selling designs of the late 2010s, and it recently stepped into the spotlight thanks to a City Connect Collection developed with Major League Baseball. The newly-surfaced style seems rooted in the highly-successful blueprint, but strips away unnecessary bulk while introducing Air Max En units to the market.

Perhaps built with a similar idea in mind as Air Max Dn (Dynamic Air), the impending product could be Air Max Energy. The plump Air bubble at the heel doesn't differ much from 2018's marquee product—presenting 270-degrees of Air—but its enclosure has been updated. A more sculpted presentation could enable enhanced responsiveness, allowing the En-branded unit to be a viable option for performance. The accompanying foam midsole (which could be an updated version of Nike React) also features grooves throughout the sides, perhaps as a nod to the propulsion provided by the shoe when engaged.

The outsole on the newer offering delivers more rubber coverage across the forefoot. The layout is reminiscent of that found on both heritage and modern Nike Running products—including the VaporFly 4 marathon racer.

Differences also appear across the upper. The layers mesh presentation has seemingly been abandoned in favor of a sleeker build that favors a textile and fuse construction. The former material features a textured, raised spots all throughout.

Reinforcement is visible at the tip of the toe and along the tongue, although visual bulk is avoided. All-new air max en badges appear on spine, taking after the Air Max Plus' Tuned Air symbol.
