Nike’s new focus on renewable materials and sustainable construction has not gotten in the way of creativity; in fact, it seems like the brand’s Move to Zero campaign has actually challenged design teams to deliver things differently — and in most cases, more charmingly. From Happy Pineapple packs to this new “Air Sprung” Air Max 97, the Swoosh has taken the serious, sustainable side of sneakers and put it in a whimsical spin.
The expansive “Air Sprung” collection has already seen the likes of the Air Force 1 and Air Max, with the latter now joined by a sister sneaker in its cause. Here, like the others, the Air Max 90 is delivered a bevy of recycled materials and a balanced vibrant, and soft color scheme. It looks to tack-on stitchwork, and playful embellishments inspired by nature, including the always-present Mushroom Man. Materials focus on pebbled leather, canvas, and burlap-like weaves, likely all recycled or part thereof. Color-wise, you’ll find an almost identical match to the pack’s Air Max 97, with a simple beige and cream base bolstered by vibrant ruby and purple accents, white midsoles that house colorful Air supports, as well as a tri-tone recycled rubber outsole. The pair is then completed by a set of special insoles, and the aforementioned Mushroom motifs in the rear.

We’re still waiting for an official release date from our sources, but you should expect to see this playful new Air Max 90 “Air Sprung” hit select stores and Nike.comin time for Spring 2022.
